CA310 Flashing lights on button console

Issue:

A break in communication between the controller in the console and the Cisco SX20
codec can cause the cart buttons to stop responding.

This is often due to TelePresence Management Suite (TMS) or Unified Communications Manager (UCM), if present, pushing configuration changes to the system when it connects to the network. One of these changes is to turn the Serial Port Login Required setting on the codec to “On” (this is the default serial port setting for devices in CUCM). The serial port login requirement must be “Off” on the SX20 in order for the console to communicate with the codec.

Symptom: 

  • Avizia screen hangs for an excessive amount of time. 
  • Blue lights blinking on the button console. 

 Parts List

  • Computer on the same network as the cart. 
  • Web Browser
  • 8mm Hex Driver (If cart is not online or cannot be plugged into the network) 
  • Remote Control (If cart is not online or cannot be plugged into the network) 

Step By Step Directions

  1. Using the Codec Web Interface
    1. Identify the IP address of the cart
    2. Wait 2-3 minutes for the cart to boot fully past the Avizia Screen. 
    3. Open a web browser on a computer connected to the same network as the cart
    4. Enter the IP address of the Cart and press enter.
    5. Login with Username: admin / Password: blank
    6. In the top menu bar, click on Configuration -> System Configuration
    7. On the sidebar on the left, click on Serial Port.
    8. Verify the following settings
      1. BaudRate: 38400
      2. LoginRequired: Off
      3. Mode: On
  2. Physically accessing the Codec
    1. Using the 8mm Hex Driver provided in the cart toolkit, remove the two hex nuts in front of the drawer, the two hex nuts to the sides of the drawer near the front, and the two on either side about three quarters of the way back. (Six total) 
    2. Press up in one of the front corners of the work surface, and remove the work surface. 
    3. Point the remote at the light on the codec to navigate the menu.
      • NOTE: If there is no white light, it is possible the codec has not powered on. Press the On button of the codec. 
      1. Press the check mark to bring up the codec menu. 
      2. Use the directional pad and check mark to select Settings -> Administrator Settings -> Advanced Configuration.
      3. Scroll down to SerialPort.
      4. Expand the menu and verify the following settings are correct: 
        1. BaudRate: 38400
        2. LoginRequired: Off
        3. Mode: On
  3. Wait a few moments for the cart to recognize the changes made. 
    1. The lights should stop blinking and control should be restored to the button console. 
  4. Replace the hex nuts removed for codec access.
